In this episode of environmentenlist, Genevieve Gralton, founder of underbares talks about the production process for her e-commerce undergarments brand (available at underbares.com, as well as online at Macy’s and J. Crew). She discusses the challenges that come with packaging and manufacturing, and also gives insight into what it is like for businesses transitioning to more sustainable methods of production.

Here are some of the highlights + brands mentioned from our conversation:

GOTS Certification

underbares recently launched a GOTS Certified Organic Cotton Mini Collection—for those unfamiliar with the GOTS certification, it is the ‘Global Organic Textile Standard’ and “the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain”.

GOTS Certified Organic fabrics have 95% or more certified organic fibers.

Ecoenclose

underbares works with the brand Ecoenclose for its 100% recycled polymailers that can easily be recycled or reused. For businesses that are interested, Ecoenclose also provides reusable, renewable, recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable mailers, boxes, inner packaging, void fill, cushioning, and more.

Tory Burch Fellows

underbares was selected as a 2019 Tory Burch Fellow by the Tory Burch Foundation—this group of innovative women entrepreneurs has access to mentoring and networking opportunities, capital, and education.
