We’re saying cheers to the New Year with Mijenta Tequila. Mijenta is an artisanal small batch tequila from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico that launched in August 2020. Behind the brand’s sustainable practices is co-founder Elise Som, a sustainable designer and environmental consultant. Originally a trained interior architect, she opened Elise Som Design Studio in 2012 in New York City but moved back to London to pursue broader sustainable designs such as furniture and products. This year, we’re excited to continue showcasing the process of creating sustainable brands—the decisions to be made, the careful thought process—it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with both the science and innovation behind environmentalism. At Mijenta, this is shown thorugh the brand’s mission “Por la Gente, Por la Tierra, Por la Vida” (for the people, for the land, for life). On this episode we discuss some of the crossroads and decisions that come with creating a sustainable brand, luxury and sustainability, as well as reframing ‘perfection’ and expectations for products.
